The Council of Ministers approved yesterday the Royal Decree by which the Afghan Sayed Saber Sayeed, who has worked for 15 years at the Spanish Embassy in Kabul and who “has been an essential person in the process of evacuation of Afghanistan with the arrival of the Taliban regime,” according to the Government.
“His dedication as a public servant stands out especially since, despite having had the opportunity to be evacuated in the first repatriation flights along with the rest of his family, Saber Sayeed preferred to remain, putting his life at risk, and helped the Embassy staff and his compatriots until the last day that it was possible to stay there,” it continued.
“His extraordinary service to Spain and the ties that bind him to our country make him worthy of the granting of Spanish nationality by letter of nature, according to the Ministry of Justice,” he said. “Saber Sayeed has demonstrated the values that have guided Spain in this evacuation process: commitment, solidarity and generosity,” added the Executive, which also recalled that, “in recognition of his heroism, he was awarded the Encomienda de Número de la Orden del Mérito Civil last September.”
