The Spanish government yesterday expressed its condemnation of last Saturday’s attack on Egyptian army personnel in the Sinai.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spain rejects the attack, which has been claimed by the Islamic State and which, in the confrontation, resulted in the death of eleven soldiers and the wounding of five others.
In the communiqué, the Spanish government conveys its condolences to the families of the dead and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded. It also reiterates its “full solidarity with Egypt in the fight against terrorism”.
The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack in the west of Egypt’s troubled Sinai Peninsula on Sunday, one of the worst attacks on security forces in recent years in Egypt.
