Authors: VV.AA.

This afternoon at 6 p.m., Casa Asia in Madrid (Palacio de Cañete, Calle Mayor, 69) presents the book Las fortalezas de las islas Molucas. Ternate and Tidore.

The book takes us to this remote place in the 16th and 17th centuries, a time when the European powers of the time (Portugal, Spain and Holland) fought for the control and monopoly of spices. In this presentation, two of the authors will talk about the history of each of the forts and the role they played in the historical events that took place on these two Spice Islands in those turbulent times. Their research is based on a substantial collection of historical documents and extensive fieldwork as a result of several field trips. Published by Belagua in Spanish and English, and illustrated with numerous images, the book has been endorsed by the Commission for the 5th Centenary of the Commemoration of the First Round the World Race.

At the event, Emilio de Miguel, director of the Casa Asia Centre-Madrid, will give a welcoming speech, and Juan Carlos Rey, diplomat, photographer and writer related to the Spanish presence in the Pacific in the 16th and 17th centuries; Antonio Campo, doctor in History, specialised in Spanish history in Indonesia in the Modern Age, will participate. Registration is open at this link.
