The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) will publish in the coming days the call for grants to Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDOs) for the implementation of development cooperation agreements for the period 2022-2025, for a maximum amount of 180 million euros.
The call, authorized last Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, is mainly aimed at those NGDOs that have obtained a previous accreditation from the AECID as a qualified agent. The AECID has been publishing this same call for proposals every four years since 2006.
The call will be financed from the AECID’s expenditure budget for the period 2022-2025, the maximum amount of which is 180 million euros. The 2022 call for proposals will be for an amount of 45 million euros, and the amount foreseen for the rest of the years is another 45 million euros in each year (2023, 2024 and 2025).
The development cooperation agreements involve a partnership between the AECID and the NGDOs and each one of them will have funding of between 1.5 and 3.5 million euros for a period of up to four years. As soon as they are published in the Official State Gazette, the AECID will officially open the call for proposals, to which NGODs may submit initiatives whose definition, priorities and specific requirements correspond to one of the five types of agreements envisaged.
Specifically, the agreements in a single country will be subsidized, which may take place in the least developed and middle-income partnership countries established in the V Master Plan for Spanish Cooperation currently in force -Bolivia, Cape Verde, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Philippines, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jordan, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Mauritania, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jordan, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Palestine, Paraguay, Peru, the Sahrawi population, the Philippines, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Palestine, Paraguay, Peru, the Sahrawi population, the Dominican Republic and Senegal – or in countries such as Egypt, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Costa Rica, the Lebanese Republic and Tunisia, without prejudice to the approval of a new master plan incorporating new countries. A maximum of three million euros is earmarked for these agreements.
Funding will also be provided for regional agreements, with special attention to the areas of combating climate change and just ecological transition, and migration (3 million); actions in humanitarian emergencies, without a specific geographical location (3.5 million); humanitarian action in protracted crises in priority countries for Spanish Cooperation and countries included in AECID’s Humanitarian Action Strategies (3 million); and agreements on education for development and global citizenship (for which a maximum of 1.5 million is foreseen).
