The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, decided yesterday to postpone the trip to Moldova and Poland that he was going to make this Thursday and Friday due to the uncertainty over the outcome of the vote on the bill with measures to deal with the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, according to sources at Moncloa.
The decision was taken after realising that the debate in the lower house and the subsequent vote on the decree could take longer than initially planned, given that the president wants to be present throughout the process given its importance.
Moncloa had reported yesterday that Sánchez was due to arrive in Moldova at around 16:00 Spanish time to meet with the president, Maia Sandu, and the country’s prime minister, Natalia Gavrilita, and to visit a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees.
The trip will now be postponed and work is already underway to find a date for the trip, said the sources, who took the opportunity to reiterate Spain’s support for the countries bordering Ukraine and which are being most affected by the conflict, which Sánchez wanted to stage with this trip.
The result of the vote is still up in the air, after ERC has hinted that it might not support it and the PP has not yet wanted to clarify the direction of its vote. The government is currently in contact with all the opposition parties to try to obtain the necessary support.
