Coinciding with the celebration of the VII International Congress on historical links between Spain and North America, the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. presents this afternoon at 6 pm, and until 31 May, together with the Instituto Franklin – UAH, the Fundación General de la Universidad de Alcalá and the Vice-rectorate of International Relations – UAH, the exhibition Invisible Emigrants OFF.

This exhibition is a capsule that condenses the essence of the exhibition Invisible Emigrants. Spaniards in the USA. (1868 – 1945), based on some of the most significant images on display, which reveal a fascinating collective history that is less and less invisible: that of Spanish emigration to the United States in the last decades of the 19th and first decades of the 20th century.

Following the same itinerary as in the original exhibition, Invisible Emigrants OFF will guide the visitor through the stages of the journey that any of the protagonists of this diaspora could have made, from saying goodbye to assimilation into American culture, through arrival in the host country, the search for work and the emergence of solidarity networks around the new community. Their glances, their memories, their stories, added to the narrative discourse that is woven around them, now allow us to contemplate a reality, perhaps not so distant, from the recognition of our past and empathy towards the migratory phenomenon in general, and the Spanish American journey in particular.
