Author: Christian Fernández Alonso.
During the 1930s, the Tierra de Campos region is enduring its everlasting Great Depression, submerged in the caciquismo mesetario, religious tradition and extreme poverty. In Villamuriel, Dimas, the Pajarero, lives in the care of his grandmother since his mother died in childbirth and his father was imprisoned for political reasons. Leónides Sanjurjo, an antique dealer who trades in works of art of dubious authenticity and stolen religious treasures, occasionally turns to little Dimas to obtain some pieces. Now a teenager, he decides to take him under his wing and takes him to live in Madrid, where Dimas becomes an apprentice art dealer. Buen ladrón (Good Thief) deals with a theme that is rarely dealt with in contemporary Spanish novels: the plundering of works of art.
