This evening at 8 p.m., the Instituto Francés of Madrid will screen the film La Femme du Fossoyeur (titled in English The Gravedigger’s Wife and originally Guled & Nasra), a Somalia-Finland-Germany-France co-production. Directed by Khadar Ayderus Ahmed and starring Omar Abdi, Yasmin Warsame and Kadar Abdoul-Aziz Ibrahim.

Pre-candidate for the 2022 Oscar for Best International Film, the film tells how Guled and Nasra are a loving couple living in the slums of Djibouti with their son Mahad. However, their family’s equilibrium is threatened: Nasra suffers from a serious kidney disease and needs an urgent operation. The operation is expensive and Guled is already working as a gravedigger to make ends meet: how can he raise the money to save Nasra and keep the family together? The screening is in the original version with English subtitles. Reservations are required at this link.
