The Interior Ministry reported yesterday that it has processed and granted 51,957 temporary protection documents to people displaced by the war in Ukraine.

A total of 29,263 (57.6%) have been processed and resolved in police stations. Madrid (10,133), Valencia (9,229) and Andalusia (9,023) are the autonomous communities receiving the most applications.

According to the department headed by Fernando Grande-Marlaska, in just one month the number of temporary protection requests for Ukrainian refugees has exceeded 50,000, since 10 March, when the emergency procedure was activated to respond to these requests.

All these protections entail a residence permit and, for those of legal age, a work permit. In addition, displaced persons who obtain temporary protection can legally use their driving licences in Spain for at least one year.

Displaced persons arriving in Spain can apply for temporary protection at the centres in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid), the Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante, the Fira de Barcelona and the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos in Málaga, as well as at 70 National Police stations throughout Spain, reports Europa Press.
