The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured yesterday at the Ukrainian refugee reception center in Alicante that Spain has already taken in almost 30,000 people fleeing the Russian invasion and expects to “reach 70,000 in a few days”.
“Currently, we have almost 30,000 refugees in Spain under temporary protection and the forecast is to reach 70,000 in a few days,” said Sanchez during his visit to the Center for Reception, Care and Referral of Ukrainian refugees in the City of Light, Alicante, where he was accompanied by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, and the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig.
During his visit, as reported by Moncloa in a press release, the President of the Government was able to see first hand the work of the professionals of the center and highlighted the efforts of the Executive to provide temporary protection to Ukrainian refugees, by streamlining the reception procedures and enabling three Reception, Care and Referral Centers in Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante, to which a fourth will be added in Malaga. “Spain is once again an example of solidarity, welcome and horizon of peace for Ukrainian refugees,” he declared.
