The Diplomat
The Instituto Polaco de Cultura in Madrid has joined #TheoryOfProtection, an installation by Ukrainian artist Daria Kolcowa against the war in Ukraine.
This artistic intervention, which was initiated at the Instituto Polaco de Cultura in New York and originally responded to the attacks in Donetsk and Lugansk in 2014, reproduces how the inhabitants of Ukraine themselves secured the windows of the houses that were subjected to explosions and bombardments during the Russian aggression. The windows, secured with adhesive tape, can save lives and symbolise both a wound and a bandage. The patterns that are drawn in this way are even beautiful amidst all the horror.
The initiative was again present on Thursday 24 March, coinciding with the start of Russia’s unjustified invasion of Ukraine a month ago. The Instituto Polaco de Cultura in Madrid has joined this proposal by installing adhesive tapes on its windows, symbolising the power of resistance of the Ukrainian people and expressing the full support of the diplomatic cultural centre.
The Polish Institute of Culture in Madrid asks our readers to join in and show their support by putting up this installation on their windows at home or at their place of work. Oh, and to post a photo on social media. “The sum makes us strong”, they say.
