The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has already chosen the diplomats who will be deputy heads at the United Kingdom and the United Nations (New York), as well as at the Consulate General in Caracas.

According to diplomatic sources, these are Jorge Cabrera, who will be the “number two” at the Embassy in London; Ana Jiménez de la Hoz, who will be Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN; and Marcos Rodríguez Cantero, who will be the new Consul General in the Venezuelan capital.

The three posts were marked with an ‘asterisk’ in the call for 114 postings, meaning that they were reserved for the minister, without waiting to hear the opinion of the Diplomatic Career Board, because they are considered to be of particular relevance.

Jorge Cabrera, a diplomat since 1999, is currently Director of the Cabinet of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Cuesta. Previously, he held, among other posts, those of “number two” in Oslo, Deputy Director General for Candidate Countries, European Economic Area Countries and other European Countries.

Ana Jiménez de la Hoz entered the diplomatic career in 1998, and has spent most of her professional career in the United Nations, either in the Spanish Mission or in the UN itself. She was currently advisor to Miguel Ángel Moratinos, United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations.

Finally, Marcos Rodríguez Cantero, a diplomat since 1993, has been, among other things, ambassador to Guinea Bissau and consul in Buenos Aires.

The Board of the Diplomatic Career will now propose to the minister the names for the other 113 posts, which include some thirty consulates, some of them of great importance, and a good number of second heads of embassies.
