The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, praised the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, on Friday for the welcome Poland is giving to refugees from Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion of that country.
In a message posted on his Twitter account, Sánchez responds to the publication of a video shared by Morawiecki on social networks, in which the two men talk during the last European summit, and the President of the Government describes the work carried out by Poland as “exceptional” and expresses Spain’s solidarity with him.
For his part, the Polish Prime Minister thanks Sánchez in the video for Spain’s participation in supporting the Ukrainian people in the face of the “terrible” war.
Furthermore, in the text accompanying the video, Morawiecki underlines the EU’s “responsibility” in supporting the Ukrainian people.
Yesterday, in his tweet, Sánchez thanked the Prime Minister and the Polish people for “the great work you are doing to welcome the Ukrainians who are forced to flee the war”. He adds that the EU is responding with unity and solidarity to Putin’s attack.
Poland has already received 2.2 million of the nearly four million people who have fled Ukraine in just over a month since Putin began his invasion of the country. From the outset, the Polish authorities set up a system for receiving Ukrainian refugees that has been praised by all EU countries for the efficiency with which it is working.
