Harold Pinter’s play El cuidador (The Caretaker), directed by Antonio Simón and performed by Joaquín Climent, Álex Barahona and Juan Díaz, is presented at the Teatro Bellas Artes in Madrid.
Humour and irony travel through this text, which presents an intelligent critique of how absurd life’s circumstances can be. The plot reflects on the possibility of taking care of the other as one takes care of a property: can one live without trusting the other? Who can one trust? These are some of the questions that El cuidador attempts to resolve, as well as other underlying questions such as the difficulty of communicating with and understanding others. For his part, the director Antonio Simón questions “to what extent trying to connect with the other implies effort, although not always rewarded”.
Actors Joaquín Climent, Juan Díaz and Álex Barahona form a triangle of characters who will debate in a dialectic, dramatic and comic duel at the same time of one of the most important plays of British theatre of the last century. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
