Fundación Casa de México in Spain, in collaboration with the Festival de Flores y Jardines (FYJA) of Mexico, celebrates the beginning of spring with a traditional floral cover, created by the master Mario Arturo Aguilar, who together with his team travelled to Madrid to create the façade cover that will be at the Fundación Casa de México in Spain from the 21st of March until the 28th of March.
The intervention A threshold for spring consists of a façade made exclusively with natural flowers, as was done in the past, respecting the limited life of the flower and echoing the cycle of life. For this, 45,000 natural flowers from Spain and Holland (chrysanthemums and carnations) are used, 15 days of work are dedicated to build the frame and 3 days to flower, the arches are made in a completely handmade way. The portal reproduces the shapes of the tenangos, colourful embroideries from the state of Hidalgo.
Floral portals are used in Mexico as a metaphor of welcome: thresholds of the future that symbolise the beginning of a new cycle that implies transformation, desire and good intentions. The arrival of spring has always been celebrated in different cultures through various rituals and objects. The beginning of the season heralds good weather, hope and renewal.
