The Council of Ministers yesterday approved the appointments of diplomats Jesús Santos Aguado and Ramón Molina Lladó as new ambassadors to Lebanon and Gabon, as reported by The Diplomat.
Santos Aguado will replace José María Ferré, who has held the post in Beirut since April 2017, almost five years ago.
A diplomat since 1992, Jesús Santos had been appointed, last 21 December, as ambassador in Special Mission for the International Crisis of Covid-19 and Global Health, for which he has been less than three months, in a post for which it was taken into account that before entering the Diplomatic Career he had been a primary care doctor and researcher in Molecular Biology and Immunology.
As a diplomat, he has been ambassador to Guinea Conakry (2007 to 2011) and to Mauritania (2017 to 2021), in addition to having served as second-in-command at the Spanish Embassies in Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Australia, Lebanon and Greece. He was also Deputy Director General for EU Countries and Candidate Countries.
Ramón Molina Lladó will replace Fernando Alonso, who has held the post since July 2018, as ambassador in Libreville.
Molina Lladó entered the diplomatic career in 1993 and since 2016 he was outside it, working as an advisor for the Mideast Consulting Group, an international consultancy firm operating from the United Arab Emirates. In his professional career, he has held various posts such as Second Head of the Spanish Embassies in Baghdad, Hanoi and Nuackchott, as well as having been Director of Exchanges at the Asia-Europe Foundation and Counsellor for Cultural Affairs in Havana.
In addition, the Council of Ministers approved the appointment of Juan José Herrera de la Muela, a diplomat since 1989 who specialises in public and cultural diplomacy, as Ambassador-at-Large for Public and Global Affairs. He has managed numerous projects with various national and international cultural institutions, foundations and universities.
