The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, held a telephone conversation yesterday with UN Secretary General António Guterres, to whom he conveyed “Spain’s support for his efforts for peace in Ukraine.”
“Conversation with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, to whom I have transferred Spain’s support to his and the UN’s efforts for peace in Ukraine,” the minister stated through his official Twitter account.
“We have also addressed the preparation of the High Level Conference on Human Rights, Civil Society and Counter-Terrorism in Malaga,” he added, referring to the conference that will be hosted by the Andalusian city on May 10 and 11, organized by the City Council and the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
The event will be held at ministerial level and will be attended, precisely, by António Guterres, and could coincide with the opening of an UNOCT Office in Madrid especially focused on the fight against terrorism in the Sahel. The Office was established on June 15, 2017 by decision of the United Nations General Assembly. Its creation was the first major institutional reform undertaken by Guterres following his report on the UN’s capacity to assist Member States in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
