Author: Carlos Taibo Arias.

Carlos Taibo Arias is a writer and editor, retired professor of Political Science and Administration at the Autonomous University of Madrid, who recounts in his book Historia de la Unión Soviética: de la revolución bolchevique a Gorbachov (History of the Soviet Union: from the Bolshevik revolution to Gorbachev), the crucial event in the turbulent and bloody history of the 20th century, the Bolshevik revolution that at the end of 1917 put a definitive end to the Tsarist empire and gave birth to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, a state that was soon to become one of the superpowers that set the pace of the world until its official dissolution in 1991 with the resignation of its last leader, Mikhail Gorbachev. This book examines in detail what the Soviet Union was and represented throughout its existence, in the firm conviction that its system underwent remarkable changes over time and unfolded according to different patterns in the different geographical areas covered by the world’s largest country.
