José Manuel Albares will not be with the King tomorrow, Friday, at the inauguration of Gabriel Boric as the new president of Chile. The Foreign Minister, who yesterday paid a visit to Mexico, will return to Madrid to follow developments in Ukraine.
Don Felipe, however, will not be alone at the event, because, as The Diplomat has already reported, the Second Vice-President, Yolanda Díaz, and the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, who have high hopes for Boric’s administration, with whom they have great political affinity, have joined the trip.
The Spanish delegation will therefore be quite large for what is customary in these inaugurations, as it will also include the President of the Senate, the Socialist Ander Gil.
Albares, in any case, has informed the new Chilean authorities of the reasons for his decision and has conveyed to them his wish for “great success in the stage they are now beginning”, according to sources in his department.
The minister has already scheduled a meeting with his Estonian counterpart, Eva-Marie Liimets, for tomorrow, Friday, to talk mainly about Ukraine and to find out the opinions of the government of this Baltic country, which is one of the closest to the conflict.
