The associations Les Territoires de la Mémoire and l’Association 24 août 1944, with the collaboration of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory and the Spanish Embassy in Belgium, present an exhibition on the Exiles of the Spanish Civil War, at La Cité Miroir (Place Xavier Neujean 22, 4000 Liège).

The exhibition consists of two loan exhibitions: Paths of Exile, by Philippe Gaussot, from the association 24 August 1944. This is a collection of photographs taken in the concentration camps along the French beaches. It provides an insight into the living conditions imposed on Spanish Republicans after the end of the Civil War; and La sangre no es agua (Blood is not water), by Pierre Gonnord, from the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with Parliament and Democratic Memory. Portraits and testimonies of exiles from the Retreat and their descendants illustrate the conditions of exile and the personal stories that have taken place in this context.

The exhibition cycle will also highlight the role of the women of the Resistance between 1936 and 1945 as militiamen, politicians, workers, volunteers, guerrilla fighters, demonstrators, repressed and deported women. This project seeks to do justice to their memory and offer the public a global vision of the real importance of their actions. The aim is to establish links between civil society in different countries and to raise awareness of the struggle and resistance of women against fascism. The opening of the exhibition will take place this evening at 8 p.m. and will be open until 21 May.
