As part of the Benedictine Celebrations 2022, the Ambassador of Italy, Riccardo Guariglia, will attend the presentation of the territory and the Brand Terre di San Benedetto, which will take place this evening at 7.30 p.m. at Whitelab (Paseo de la Castellana, 166).
The evening will be enlivened by the three historical processions in period costume dedicated to St. Benedict, Patron Saint of Europe, and by the choirs of Norcia and Subiaco. This will be followed by a tasting of the gastronomic delights of the area.
The initiatives of the Benedictine Celebrations 2022 have been presented in Rome, at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Italy, Spazio Europa: celebrations organised by the civil and religious communities of Norcia, Subiaco and Cassino in honour of Saint Benedict, Patron Saint of Europe, promulgator of the message of unity and peace, today symbolically represented by the Torch “Pro Pace et Europa Una”. This year too, these celebrations will benefit from institutional collaborations and sponsorships, including the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the Italian Embassy in Spain, the Spanish Embassy in Italy, ENIT, the Region of Lazio, the Region of Umbria and the support of the Honorary Vice-Consulate in La Coruña.
The presentation of the Terre di San Benedetto brand will be followed on Friday by 4 institutional meetings involving national and local authorities and, of course, the Italian Embassy which, together with ENIT, offered support to the Italian delegations in the organisation of events on Iberian soil. The religious programme is particularly rich with the visit to the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos (Saturday 5), the Eucharistic celebration in the Cathedral of Madrid presided over by the Archbishop (Sunday 6) and the Pilgrim’s Mass in the Cathedral of Santiago, officiated by the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain (Monday 7). After its return to Italy, the Torch will be received on Saturday 12 March in Subiaco, at the Sacro Speco, and on Sunday 13 March in Montecassino, at the tomb of the Saint, and later in Cassino. From Montecassino on Friday 18th March the torch relay will take place, escorted by the running groups of the three towns, Norcia Run 2017 (Norcia), Marciatori Simbruini (Subiaco) and CUS (Cassino) will run entirely on foot along the route of the ‘Way of St. Benedict’, to return to Norcia on the evening of 20th March. The Benedictine, religious and civil celebrations will end simultaneously in the three towns on 21 March.
