From 4 to 6 March, the 4th Cypriot and Greek Film Festival of the Catalan capital will be held at the Cines Girona in Barcelona, with the aim of presenting contemporary Cypriot and Greek feature films to the Spanish public, highlighting the artistic currents and contemporary producers of Cyprus and Greece.
The Festival returns this year, following the success of the first three editions, with screenings of films that will compete for two awards for Best Film: the Audience Award and the Jury Award. The Festival will also include the screening of Cypriot short films by female directors. The films competing in the festival will be screened in their original language with English subtitles.
The films being presented are, on the Cypriot side, Citizen of the Third Age by Marinos Kartikkis and Valley of Roses by Christoforos Roditis, and the Greek films are A Simple Man by Tassos Gerakinis, Sacrilegos by Marsa Makris, Dissolved by Thodoris Vournas and Vasi’s Odyssey by Vassilios Papatheocharis. The Festival will be attended, among others, by Thodoris Vournas, Maria Thomas, Marsa Makris, Christoforos Roditis and Vassilios Papatheocharis, who will speak to the public after the screening of their films.
The Festival, which will be opened by the Consul of Cyprus in Spain, Christiana Tzika, is co-organised by expatriate Cypriots and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus. It is also supported by the Embassies of Cyprus and Greece, the Greek Film Centre, the Secretariat of Greeks Abroad, the online film platform FILMIN, the Greek Community of Catalonia, the Official Language School of Barcelona and the companies Oktana Casa de Cultura, Punt de Gir, Olimpo Gourmet and Furnos.
