On the occasion of Pacific Day and the closing of the exhibition BIBA CHAMORU: Culture and Identity in the Mariana Islands, the Asociación Española de Estudios del Pacífico (AEEP), Casa Asia and the National Museum of Anthropology of Madrid are holding a round table discussion next Thursday at 7pm in the Assembly Hall of the Museum (entrance on Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, 11, opposite Atocha Station). Admission is free.

For years, the AEEP has been promoting the celebration of Pacific Day and this year, which marks the fifth centenary of the First Round the World Race, this activity has a special significance.

A round table will be organised with the participation of Fernando Sáez (director of the MNA). Welcome and “Presentation and meaning of BIBA CHAMORU”; Patricia Alonso (MNA): “The Chamorro collections of the MNA and the 1887 exhibition”; Sandra Montón (Universitat Pompeu Fabra): “The Aberigua project”; Rafael Rodríguez-Ponga (AEEP and Universitat Abat Oliba CEU): “The Chamorros: language and culture in the context of the peoples of the Pacific”, and Emilio de Miguel (Ambassador on Special Mission for the Indo-Pacific and Director of Casa Asia in Madrid). This will be followed by a colloquium. Those who wish can visit beforehand the temporary exhibition BIBA CHAMORU: Culture and Identity in the Mariana Islands (with access through the main entrance of the museum). Free admission.
