Author: Francisco Javier Pagola.

Next Thursday, at 6.30 p.m., the book Bajo Lluvia de Plomo, by Francisco Javier Pagola, will be presented at 5, Ros de Olano Street, Madrid.

This book is a journey into the past because it describes events and situations that occurred during the hard years of ETA terrorism, as the author recorded them in diaries, notes and annotations. It all begins in the summer of 1979, in front of a building inhabited by military commanders who had to pass through the corridor of death every day, that short distance between the doorway and the official vehicle. The book aims to convey, in the present and in the first person, the horror and pain after an attack. In seconds, a peaceful space is transformed into a scene of war; the emotion inspired by a mother who takes refuge in an eternal monologue to make up for the emptiness left by her absent son; the fear of many, who preferred to close the doors and windows of their homes so as not to see the body of their neighbour lying in a pool of blood – better to find out later on television, so that the event seems somewhat more distant; the loneliness of more than a few who endured the rain of lead while many remained with their arms folded waiting for it to subside; the active collaboration with terrorism of a legion of Basques and the passive complicity of too many.
