An exhibition of photographs on the life of Augusto C. Sandino was the centrepiece of a tribute paid by the Nicaraguan Embassy on 21 February at the Marx Madera Cultural Centre in Madrid to the figure of what is considered the “general of dignity” in the Central American country, coinciding with the 88th anniversary of his death.

The event was attended by diplomats from Russia and Venezuela, as well as politicians, academics and trade unionists.

The Nicaraguan ambassador, Carlos Midence, affirmed that “Sandino forged a system of thought, values, principles, as well as a national project, which is materialised in today’s Nicaragua, as the country has achieved a diversity of social, economic, political and cultural advances and achievements”.
