With the support of the Instituto Francés, the Franco-Spanish Friendship Association Diálogo is organising a meeting entitled From Balzac to Twitter: What is news today? between the writer Carmen Posadas and the journalist, correspondent for Libération and director of Diario Vivo, François Musseau, which will take place on Wednesday 23 February at 18:30 in the “Taller de ideas” room of the Eugenio Trías Parque El Retiro Municipal Public Library (Paseo Fernán Núñez, 24, Madrid).
The film Lost Illusions, based on one of the great works of the French writer Honoré de Balzac, tells the story of Lucien, a young poet from the provinces who, on arriving in Paris, becomes an unscrupulous journalist in a society convulsed by the industrial revolution and political changes. The topicality of Balzac’s reflections on the commercialisation of information and the tabloid press, corruption and the dictatorship of fashions and trends allow us, two centuries later, to reflect on what is news today and on the role of the press in today’s society.
