Next Wednesday 23 February the doors of halls 7 and 9 of the IFEMA MADRID exhibition centre will open to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the ARCO MADRID 2022 International Contemporary Art Fair, where the Colombian galleries Fernando Pradilla, La Balsa and Nueveochenta will be present.
On the other hand, as part of the official ARCO circuit, the Embassy of Colombia will be showing the exhibition Los grabados populares y otras historias, by the pioneer of Colombian conceptual art, Álvaro Barrios (in the photo, Popular engraving printed on a flyleaf, 1976), at its Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Centre, located in the residence of the diplomatic mission.
It is a retrospective organised by the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO), consisting of 47 works produced from 1972 to the present day. His work brings together surrealism, conceptual art and pop art, with which he articulates religious, mythological, esoteric and fantastic elements. He uses comic strips, popular iconography, science fiction and art history to create new dialogues. For Ambassador Luis Guillermo Plata, as the Embassy points out, “it is a source of pride that the Embassy of Colombia in Spain is the only diplomatic mission that forms part of the official ARCO circuit and participates year after year to promote and support Colombian talent”.
