February 11 2022, marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Spain.

The strong friendly relations, based on dialogue and mutual understanding established between Azerbaijan and Spain over the past 30 years, are developing on an upward trajectory.

Cooperation between the two countries covers the fields: political, economic, energy, cultural, tourism, humanitarian, sports, among others.

Based on the norms and principles of international law, Azerbaijan and Spain support and respect each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of their internationally recognized borders.

High-level political dialogue has developed successful cooperation between the two countries at the multilateral level. Both nations share a common viewpoint on a number of issues on the international agenda; both states are allies in the fight against international terrorism, extremism and separatism. Cooperation and mutual support within the framework of international and regional organizations is one of the indicators of good relations between the two peoples.

Steps have been taken to further develop relations in the fields of economy, tourism, culture, etc… to expand the legal framework open new favorable prospects for the development of cooperation between our societies. High-level relations between the parliaments of the two countries contribute significantly to the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Spain.

The establishment of full diplomatic relations dates back to February 11, 1992 after the accession of Azerbaijan to independence. The bilateral relationship is good (there is no dispute), although of limited content, hence the common intention to enhance it. The Azerbaijani authorities are aware that Spain is an important European country and have shown their interest in boosting bilateral relations, to which the opening of an Azerbaijani Embassy in Madrid in 2005 has contributed. Currently, Ambassador Ramiz Hasanov, a former deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan, is working tirelessly to promote better mutual relations.

In this regard, the Embassy of Azerbaijan will hold various events during the year 2022 to commemorate this important event.

The 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Spain is a great opportunity to further strengthen and deepen cooperation between the two countries and their peoples.
