On Saturdays and Sundays until 27 February at 7pm, Nave 73 in Madrid (c/ Palos de la Frontera, 5) offers the play La Política, a corrosive portrait on the true meaning of Democracy, written and directed by Patricia Benedicto.
La Política immerses the spectator in the intimacy of a political representative, from here or anywhere else. It allows us to enter her personal world where, away from the spotlight, La Política shows herself as she is and expresses, with brutal sincerity, what she really thinks about her voters and the affairs of state. Elena Corral and Laura Lorenzo (alternating with Lúa Testa) star in this montage that delves into the nature of the men and women who dedicate themselves to the ‘noble art’ of governing: are our rulers the best prepared people in society for the mission they have to carry out, are they public servants or are they careerists who go into politics to serve themselves, is democracy the least bad of all political systems? And what is our role in all this? We ordinary citizens spend all day talking about politics on social media or in bars and we limit ourselves to putting a ballot paper in a ballot box every now and then. Is that the only role we have to play to build a free, critical and truly democratic society? Tickets at this link.
