This evening at 8 p.m., the Theatre of the Instituto Francés in Madrid will screen the documentary Les Invisibles, by Sébastien Lifshitz, as part of the film series Retrospective: The César Awards. In 2013, the film was awarded the César for best documentary film.
Older gay men and women talk about their lives and how they have dealt with their sexuality in a France that once rejected them.
Openly gay, Sébastien Lifshitz’s filmography focuses on LGBT issues. In 1998, his short film Les corps ouverts, was awarded the Prix Jean Vigo, a prize given each year to the French director who has distinguished himself most for his independent spirit and stylistic originality. In 2001, his documentary La traversée was selected in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs category at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2004, he directed the film Wild Side, which told the story of a transgender prostitute, a Maghrebi hustler and a Russian defector from the Chechen war, and won the Teddy Award at the Berlin Film Festival and the Milan LGBT Film Festival prize.
