Author: Viruca Yebra.
On 2 February, the Centro Sefarad-Israel presented the book La última condesa nazi (The Last Nazi Countess), by Viruca Yebra, and was accompanied at the event by the Member of Parliament Ana Pastor; the journalist Bieito Rubido, director of El Debate; and Patricia Weisz, president of the Fundación Violeta Friedman.
In The Last Nazi Countess, the author tells the story of Clotilde von Havel, a German aristocrat married to a Wehrmacht commander who died at the end of the Second World War. Clotilde flees from the Russian troops and, faced with her situation of poverty and exile, decides to fight for her life, to shed light on her past and to take advantage of her lucky breaks. The novel follows her adventures from the devastated post-war Berlin to the glamorous New York or the changing London of the 1950s, until, in the 1960s, she settles in the Marbella of the golden age and, with the help of her nephew, a former SS man who has not renounced being a Nazi, becomes involved in the daily life of those who, on the fringes of Franco’s Spain, found refuge on the Costa del Sol.
