King Philip VI has tested positive for COVID-19, which has forced him to suspend all his scheduled official activities for a period of seven days, including the audience and lunch he was to offer yesterday to the president of the Tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić.
As reported by the Royal Household in a press release, the Monarch tested positive yesterday morning after presenting mild symptoms since the night before. “Following the rules established by the health authorities, His Majesty the King will remain in isolation for seven days,” it continued. “His official activities planned during this period are therefore suspended as of this moment,” the Royal Household announced. However, it specified, the King’s general state of health “is good and he will maintain his institutional activity from his residence.”
Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofia have no symptoms and will be able to continue with their scheduled activities normally, according to the established rules, and will undergo the monitoring protocols provided in these cases. Princess Leonor is currently at the UWC Atlantic College boarding school in Wales, United Kingdom.
The Monarch had planned a working meeting with the Bosnian President, who was received yesterday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. Likewise, the Balkan leader was going to be entertained with a lunch by the King and Queen of Spain. The two appointments were suspended because of the King’s positive result.
In November 2020, the King was forced to intervene telematically in some events, such as the V Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held in Barcelona, after having maintained direct contact with a positive for COVID-19.
