Andrés Allamand, who was elected last November as the new Ibero-American Secretary General (SEGIB), went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday to hold a first meeting with the head of the department, José Manuel Albares.

According to a note from the Foreign Ministry, Albares conveyed to Allamand his commitment to the Ibero-American space, and discussed with him how to develop a reinforced dialogue and extend cooperation between the two regions to areas such as culture and youth. On his Twitter account, the minister added that the SEGIB is “a key organisation for Spain”.

Allamand, who is on a private visit, is still Chile’s foreign minister, a post he will hold until 11 March, when Gabriel Boric takes over the country’s presidency. He will not take up his new post until after that date, replacing Rebeca Grynspan.

On the other hand, yesterday Albares received the Secretary General of the International Youth Organisation for Ibero-America, Max Trejo. With him, he reviewed the articulation of the Ibero-American Youth Pact, approved in Cartagena de Indias in 2016, as well as other initiatives that bring Ibero-American youth closer together.
