A tribute to the music of Totò’s films at the Instituto Italiano of Culture
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Next Friday 4th February, with the concert Sepè Le Mokò. Le musiche dei film di Totò kicks off the second edition of In Scena a Palazzo, the cycle of live performances that began on October 14th. As always, the protagonist will be the magnificent Assembly Hall of the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid, and some of the most outstanding Italian artists of the moment will take to the stage.

The extraordinary quartet formed by Daniele Sepe (saxophone), Mario Nappi (piano and keyboard), Davide Costagliola (double bass and electric bass) and Paolo Forlini (drums) will be there to restore the genius and profound “Italianness” of this energetic – and at the same time ironic – swing, revealing an authentic, little-explored heritage of the Italian jazz tradition with “Sepè le Mokò”. A sincere homage to those directors, actors, scriptwriters and musicians who gave and continue to give good humour, which is no small thing, and also a deeper insight into many “serious” films of the time about Italian society in the 1960s. Totò’s Dadaist adventures with Peppino De Filippo, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Taranto and Aldo Fabrizi are so intense and fast-paced that most of the time we don’t stop to listen to what is going on in the background, i.e. the incredible scores that underline the tragicomic comedy of the scripts, thus losing a precious element. Composers of the stature of Piero Piccioni, Armando Trovajoli, Lelio Luttazzi, Carlo Rustichelli, Alessandro Cicognini, Piero Unliliani, all with a solid jazz background.

Free admission, with prior booking request, writing to confirmaciones.iicmadrid@gmail.com and indicating name, surname and telephone contact of all persons for whom the booking is requested and in the subject “4 FEBRUARY”. Bookings until 3 February. Access is not allowed once the show has started.
