Premiere of the play ‘Silencio’ at the Teatro Español with Blanca Portillo

Until 11 February, the actress Blanca Portillo presents at the Teatro Español the play Silencio, with dramaturgy and direction by Juan Mayorga.

The play brings to the stage the speech Mayorga gave on 19 May 2019 on the occasion of his admission to the Royal Spanish Academy, and invites us to discover the importance of silence in the art of theatre and in life.

Dressed in a formal suit in which he does not quite feel comfortable, the playwright will enter the Academy with a speech entitled Silencio (Silence). His listeners are the other academicians, with whom he shares the podium, and the people – family, friends, colleagues, authorities, strangers… – who have come to accompany him this afternoon. He has chosen to talk about silence in life and in theatre. He has also chosen to travel through theatrical silences that resonate in his memory and in his body. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
