A Hero’s Life is the title of the concert that the Sociedad de Conciertos La Filarmónica presents next Wednesday 2 February at 19.30 at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, under the baton of conductor Valery Gergiev (in the photo) and pianist Nelson Goerner.
The Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, on its tour of Spain, will perform Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major, op. 83, and Richard Strauss’ A Hero’s Life, op. 40.
In January 2021, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra led the first post-confinement international orchestra tour with two memorable concerts. They return now to perform the symphonic poem A Hero’s Life by Richard Strauss, a composer greatly admired by maestro Gergiev and closely linked to Madrid’s musical history. In 1898, the Sociedad de Conciertos de Madrid, the entity that inspired La Filarmónica at its foundation, presented Richard Strauss in his debut at the Teatro del Príncipe Alfonso. That same year, Strauss composed this beautiful symphonic poem, A Hero’s Life, which will be heard at the Auditorio Nacional.
