The Diplomat
India’s new ambassador to Spain, Dinesh K. Patnaik, presented his Copies of Letters of Credence at the Ministry of External Affairs last week, to the second Ambassadorial Introducer, Christian Celdrán., having arrived in Madrid a few days earlier.
Patnaik replaces Sanjay Varma -who held the post for just under two years and will now have to wait for a further ceremony of presentation of Letters of Credence to the King before he is fully accredited as Ambassador to Spain.
Patnaik, who has been a diplomat since 1990, has a long career as a diplomat, having served as ambassador to Morocco and Cambodia, as well as being posted in London as India’s High Commissioner to the UK. He was also India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Vienna.
At the time of his appointment, he was Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and previously held various positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, including those of Under-Secretary in charge of Western European countries and Under-Secretary responsible for overseeing India’s relations with African countries.
