On the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day 2022, which commemorates the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid, in collaboration with Centro Sefarad-Israel, is inviting writer Edith Bruck, a survivor of the death camps, online this morning at 11:30 am.
Edith Bruck, Hungarian by birth and Italian by adoption, will participate in a long-distance dialogue with her testimony of the tragic experience she lived through when she was not yet thirteen years old. After the liberation in April 1945 and the subsequent pilgrimage through several countries to find a refuge in which to start living again after the atrocities of the Shoah, Edith found refuge in Italy, which she chose as her adopted home and where she decided to plant her roots. The meeting will be moderated by the director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Marialuisa Pappalardo, and will include the participation of students from the Liceo Italiano de Madrid and the Centro de Estudios Ibn Gabirol Colegio Estrella Toledano.
