The National Police have arrested a 30-year-old British fugitive wanted for drug trafficking, after being located on the Costa del Sol, specifically in San Pedro de Alcántara, in Malaga. The arrest has taken place hours after the UK and Spanish authorities asked for the collaboration of citizens to locate twelve fugitives from justice included in the ‘most wanted’ list.

The fugitive is Joshua Hendry, 30 years old and accused of drug trafficking, according to the British Embassy with information from the National Crime Agency (NCA). He was arrested in San Pedro Alcántara on Thursday afternoon after an off-duty police officer recognised him after seeing him in the images of the campaign launched on Wednesday.

The campaign was presented in Madrid by the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior, Rafael Pérez; the Minister Counsellor of the British Embassy, Sarah Cowley; the Director General of Operations of the British National Crime Agency (NCA), Steve Rodhouse; and the CEO of the charity Crimestoppers.

At the press conference, the British NCA highlighted the fact that most of the fugitives were hiding, according to police enquiries, in the Costa del Sol area of Malaga. “They feel comfortable mixing with the British community,” said Steve Rodhouse, who also warned of the possibility of them continuing to commit crimes once they have settled in Spain.

The authorities are asking that any information relating to the eleven remaining fugitives be channelled through CrimeStoppers, which has an anonymous free phone number (900 926 111), where they can be contacted in Spanish.
