The Diplomat
At the headquarters of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Embassy of Nicaragua held at last Tuesday a tribute ceremony on the 155th anniversary of the birth of the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío.
The act, developed with the pertinent sanitary measures and attended by the Ambassador of Honduras, the Ministers Counsellors of Russia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Bolivia, diplomats of Venezuela and Brazil, counted with the words and the greeting of our Good Government and People, through the Ambassador, Comrade Carlos Midence.
After the welcome, Ambassador Carlos Midence reflected on the work, life and thought of Darío, as well as the Director General of Culture of the OEI, Natalia Armijos, who accompanied the event at the presidential table.
Afterwards, the academic, researcher and Professor at the University of Valladolid, Gema Cienfuegos Antelo, presented a conference entitled: Rubén Darío goes to school, the presence of the poet in Spanish school textbooks and anthologies and illustrated albums for children, in which she spoke about the canon of Darío’s writing and the inclusion of the poet in school curricula in Spain. “A historical journey, she emphasised, of how Darío has become a learning model in the curricula of this Iberian country”.
For her part, the novelist and essayist Sara Rosenberg, presented a paper entitled: Darío, his time and ours, in which she emphasised the acuteness of Darío’s thought in terms of capturing, analysing and narrating the facts and events of which he was a witness in his time, his relationship with the present day and the validity of the poet’s thought in interpreting contemporary reality, shaping a resistant and anti-imperialist poetics. He also highlighted the pacifist ideas and positions defended by the Nicaraguan poet.
At the beginning and end of the event, two cultural numbers were performed, song and dance from Dario’s poems: El amor no admite cuerdas reflexiones and Caupolicán, interpreted by the singer-songwriter Juanjo Anaya and danced by the Nicaraguan artist Ilseth Rivas Guevara.
The event took place under the relevant sanitary measures and was attended by the Ambassador of Honduras, the Minister Counsellors of Russia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Bolivia, and diplomats from Venezuela and Brazil.
