From 26 January to 6 February, the Teatro de la Zarzuela offers the lyric sainete in two acts, Entre Sevilla y Triana, composed by Pablo Sorozábal, with libretto by Luis Fernández Sevilla and Luis Tejedor Pérez.
The plot is set in the Triana district of Seville, in contemporary times. Reyes is a young Sevillian girl who lives with her cousin Micaela in the house of her widowed aunt, La Señá Patro. A few months ago she secretly gave birth to a child who is passed off as the son of her aunt and uncle, Mariano and his wife, La Señá Benita. The baby’s father is Fernando, a ship’s captain whom she has not seen for a year, but whom she is still waiting for in love.
José María is in love with Reyes and tries to open her eyes to Fernando. He tells her that he is cheating on her with a singer, Esperanza, with whom he has been corresponding since the boat; however, Reyes does not want to believe it. José María goes to Esperanza to make her tell the truth to Reyes, who courageously discovers the secret and makes public what was already rumoured. José María is taken aback by the news.
