On the 25th anniversary of the signing of the peace agreements in Guatemala, the Spanish diplomat Manuel Montobbio presents his book La perplejidad del Quetzal. La construcción de la Paz en Guatemala, which is a timely approach to the problems of state-building in Central America, regional pacification in Esquipulas II, the Guatemalan process and its lessons, and the process of incorporating the URNG. The author offers a reflection on the what, why, what for and how of the construction of peace, democracy and development and on the making of history in Guatemala.
At the event, Enrique Ojeda, Director General of Casa de América, and Mónica Bolaños, Guatemalan Ambassador to Spain, will give welcoming remarks. Manuel Montobbio, author of the book; Emilio Cassinello, director of CITpax; Raquel Zelaya, member of the negotiating delegation of the Peace Accords and Secretary for Peace of the Government of Guatemala (video), and Otilia Lux de Cojtí, Member of the Historical Clarification Commission and winner of the Bartolomé de Las Casas Prize (video) will also participate.
