Acciona, Sacyr and OHLA will compete with the Chinese company CRCC for the construction and subsequent 15-year concession of a 605-bed hospital in Chile, valued at 300 million dollars (265 million euros), reports Europa Press.

According to the minutes of receipt of bids and opening of technical offers for the project, the four companies have passed the technical requirements necessary to take part in the bidding and have an economic offer that they will present in the next few days.

The new Coquimbo Hospital will have 132,000 square metres of floor space and a total of 605 beds distributed into 457 basic and medium care beds, 72 critical patient beds, 18 rehabilitation beds, 24 ‘pensionado’ beds (private patients) and 34 mental health beds. It will also have 22 wards; 85 medical, dental and non-medical consultation rooms; six comprehensive delivery rooms and an emergency service, among others.

The contract includes the design, construction and maintenance of the new building, as well as the provision, replacement, assembly and maintenance of medical equipment and furniture.

Once the contract is awarded, the works are expected to begin in the second half of 2023, with the aim of the hospital coming into operation in 2027. During the construction phase, the project could generate up to 2,200 direct jobs.

The development of the Coquimbo Hospital is part of the second concession programme developed by the Chilean government and involves a total investment of USD 2.3 billion (EUR 2.03 billion), bringing 4,000 new beds to the national health system.

So far, the Ministry of Public Works has already tendered 18 of the 19 hospitals that are part of this investment programme, having awarded three contracts for the development of eight hospitals, as well as others for which the winner is already known.

Among them, OHLA has been awarded four, those of the Biobío region, for 287 million euros; Sacyr, together with Global Dominion, that of Buin-Paine, located in the province of Maipo, for 101 million euros; Acciona that of La Serena, for another 228 million euros; and Puentes y Calzadas, together with the Chinese CRBC, three hospitals (Maule Network) for 215 million euros.
