Author: Mihai Eminescu.
On the occasion of Romanian Culture Day (15 January) and in homage to the personality and creation of the great poet Mihai Eminescu, the Instituto Rumano de Cultura presents Cezara (1876), an emblematic novel by the greatest writer of Romanian literature.
The young protagonist falls madly in love with Ieronim, a figure both angelic and demonic from whom emanates an irresistible attraction. On a secluded, lush island paradise, to which they are granted access by the hermit Euthanasius, the couple will oppose the apotheosis of their love to the lurks of the outside world, in their attempt to merge with the primordial nature of their surroundings.
The volume is completed by another of Mihai Eminescu’s fundamental works, The Poor Dionis (1872), in which, through the story of two characters who, although very distant in time, see their destinies inextricably linked, the reader will be drawn into the disturbing territory of otherness, where, as in a game of mirrors, the real will be relativised to infinity.
