Six new ambassadors presented their Letters of Credence to the King yesterday, in a ceremony held, as is traditional, at the Royal Palace in Madrid. Among the new diplomatic representatives was that of Algeria, a country with which Spain has been taking special care in its relations in recent months due to gas supply problems.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, was unable to attend this first event of 2022, as he was taking part in the informal meeting of European Union foreign affairs ministers that has been held in Brest (France) since yesterday. In his place, the Undersecretary, Luis Manuel Cuesta, represented the Ministry.

The first of the ambassadors to present his credentials was the ambassador of Luxembourg, Christian Marck Biever. Then the Ambassador of Finland, Sari Rautio, and the Ambassadors of Egypt, Yousef Diaeldin Mekkawy, Algeria, Said Moussi, Indonesia, Muhammad Najib, and Armenia, Sos Avetisvan, who joined the ceremony after the Ambassador of Ireland, Frank Joseph Smyth, announced several days ago that he was unable to attend due to illness

All of them had a brief chat with Don Felipe after the presentation of their diplomatic documents.

After the presentation of their Letters of Credence, all of them will be able to attend the annual reception for the Diplomatic Corps that Felipe VI will preside over next Monday, the 17th, also at the Royal Palace.
