The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, met yesterday in Brest (France) with his Italian counterpart, Luigi di Maio, with whom he addressed issues such as the EU’s southern neighborhood, stability in the Mediterranean and the possible creation of an investment forum for the joint participation of companies from the two countries in EU-funded projects.

As reported by Albares through his Twitter account, the two ministers held a meeting in the margins of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers (Gymnich) in which they discussed “mechanisms to further strengthen our bilateral political and economic relationship, shared priorities in the EU and the Southern Neighborhood, key to Mediterranean stability.”

For his part, Di Maio reported through the same social network that he had held a meeting with Albares, in which both noted their “satisfaction with the bilateral relations of Italy and Spain and the joint work in the EU” and exchanged “opinions on the electoral process in Libya”.

According to diplomatic sources informed the Europa Press agency, the two ministers also discussed the possibility of creating a joint investment forum so that companies from each of the two countries can participate in projects financed by Next Generation EU in the other country. Spain and Italy are the two countries that will receive the most funds from the EU Recovery Plan.
