Acciona has been shortlisted for a A$415 million (265 million euros) contract in Perth to upgrade a railway line that forms part of the metropolitan network of the capital of the Western Australian state, reports Europa Press.

The Spanish firm is working with its subsidiary Coleman and in consortium with the US firm Aecon, the Canadian firm WSP and the Australian firm BMB Constructions. This alliance has beaten the one formed by an ACS subsidiary in Australia, CPB Contractors, together with other companies in the sector.

According to Metronet, the public company in charge of Perth’s metropolitan transport, the contract consists of the elimination of three level crossings and the construction of two elevated stations, as well as the urban regeneration actions linked to the project focused on the promotion of bicycle lanes and pedestrian paths.

This is the first package of a larger project to be carried out on the 30-kilometre line that runs between the capital and the municipality of Armadale. If the provisional award becomes final, Acciona and its consortium will have preference for the second package.

In that case, it is a slightly larger contract, around 300 million euros, and involves the elimination of two more level crossings and the construction of two more elevated stations, as well as the conversion of 2.5 hectares of public tracks, according to information released by the project’s promoters.

In 2020, Coleman was also awarded a 161 million euro contract to upgrade Bayswater station, also on the Metronet network. In the same region, Acciona won a €21 million urban regeneration contract in 2021.

On the other side of the country, it also won a similar 330 million contract that year to remove two level crossings and build a new station in Melbourne. Together with Ferrovial, it won a 1.24 billion Sydney Metro project and, together with ACS, two more: a 750 million contract to develop a line between Melbourne and Brisbane and a 328 million contract to build a runway in Sydney.
