From 4 to 9 January, as part of the Christmas programme for family audiences, the Sala Verde of the Teatros del Canal will host the performances of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, directed by Joaquín De Luz, Apollo and Pulcinella, with choreographies by George Balanchine and Blanca Li.
This session, which first offers the historic choreography by George Balanchine, one of the most outstanding choreographers of the 20th century, for Apollo, was the first collaboration between the Russian creator and the composer Igor Stravinski, premiered by Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1928. In it, he presents the young god and his arrival in the adult world through the muses of poetry, mime and dance.
The artistic director of the National Dance Company, Joaquín de Luz, commissioned Blanca Li, director of Teatros del Canal, to create a new version of Pulcinella, which premiered on 8 March 2020 at the Auditorio Nacional de Música. The original music was composed by Stravinsky after being commissioned by the conductor Ernest Ansermet for the ballet he premiered in 1920.
