The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will change at least a twelve consul general next summer, among them the one in Caracas, currently held by Juan José Buitrago, who was chief of staff to minister José Manuel García-Margallo and ambassador to Havana.
The twelve Consulates General are on the list of posts to be compulsorily renewed, which will soon be put out to tender among diplomatic officials. In addition to Caracas, the Consulates General in Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Munich, Hamburg, Saint Petersburg, Tetouan, Istanbul, Mendoza, Melbourne, Bahía Blanca and Guadalajara will also change their posts.
The Consulate in Caracas is marked with an asterisk, which means that the Minister of Foreign Affairs can decide who will occupy it, without hearing the opinion of the Board of the Diplomatic Career.
The same happens with the second chief post, i.e. the ‘number two’, at the Embassy in London, which is another of the posts that will change its holder next summer, once the competition is resolved at the end of April.
Other second chiefs posts will also be put out to tender, such as those at the Embassies in Buenos Aires, Lima, Stockholm, Cairo, Malabo, Belgrade and Canberra.
The deputy permanent representatives to the OECD and Vienna (UN) and the cultural counsellors in London, Lisbon and Rabat will also be relieved of their posts, the latter of which are in great demand by diplomats.
