Webcast at Casa Asia on Hispanism in South Korea

500 years of the encounter between East and West: Hispanism in South Korea is the title of the webcast that Casa Asia and the Instituto Cervantes will present next Thursday at 10 a.m., within the framework of the Series of lectures by Hispanists from Asia-Pacific.

The webcast will be given by Professor Jeong-hwan Shin (in the photo), vice-rector of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and former president of the Korean Association of Hispanists. South Korea is located in the far east of Eurasia and is the farthest country from Spain, which is in the far west of this continent. However, both nations share many historical experiences – especially in the 20th century – and have as many similarities as the fact that they are located in a peninsular territory. The beginning of their mutual recognition -and as a cornerstone of it- was only in 1955 when the teaching of Spanish began in a Korean university just after the Korean War. Since then, the status of Spanish has changed and evolved along with the development of South Korea. The lecture will deal with the history that both countries have shared, the current situation of their alliance, and the perspective of Hispanism in South Korea. 24 hours before the event, those registered will receive the necessary information to access the event. Registration at this link.
